Dance 3, Mixed Media
30 x 25cm
I have quite a few small canvasses stacked away in my studio, I usually find them too small to work on and so they remain in the back of my cupboard. I love to play with watercolour and collage but I dislike having to put the image behind glass. I decided to experiment with watercolour on the blank canvas, wondering if the pigment would just sink into the canvas and dry very pale. I used tissue paper to collage some shapes on which to play and this dancer seemed to appear, she has very fat legs! I left some of the watercolour and painted over some of the areas with acrylic and then sealed the image with a coat of diluted soft gel. I now wish I had worked on a larger canvas, maybe I will use this painting as a spring-board for a larger image.

I love your delicate dancer, I too have some little canvasses in the cupboard, and some unusualy shaped ones that I sould get out and play with. I have been thinking of doing something with collage and lovely papers.
I really love this Dianne, fat legs or not! Beautifully done...
It is so beautiful, Dianne, I love the way the colors blen, it's a bit like a fresco!
have a great day

wonderful experiment with paper and paint. An ethereal dancer, a magic dancer
The best paintings are when you decide to play. Colours and texture are lovely.
Dianne, I think the color and movement is wonderful! The image is nicely understated and so graceful. I don't know if you can get it there but you might really like the new watercolor canvas called "yes" canvas. They are very smooth and take the water media so nicely. Although, regular canvas seems to be working pretty well for you here! LOL! Cheers, Tonya
Lovely work..I am encouraged by your approach to painting..as I am also an intuitive painter. It is wonderful to come across another painter with a similar vision!
feel free to check out my blog as well...I'd love to hear from you!

Really lovely Di!
Dear Friends, thanks for your lovely comments. I have not been able to get on to my blog as our computer was invaded by a dreaded nasty and we had to wipe the whole thing clean and start all over again. I will get back to blogging soon.
Love the movement. I see other "people" in your dancer. I tried water color on canvas years back - it was a lovely experience. I loved rolling the colors around into each other. However, mine did not end up with that lovely focal point nor a focused energy that you have, Dianne. But it was fun. :)
Beautiful Di - such movement!
Thanks, Carol! See you next Saturday!
I think this is wonderful! I think her larger legs are muscles from all the dancing! I love using paper for texture over canvas and have had some success with rice paper as it is very strong and can hold up to the water, but still gives a nice texture. I love the colors of this piece! She is a dream and probably a good spring board for you to go with a larger canvas! You always have these wonderful ideas, Dianne!
Dear Kim, So good to hear from you again!
I wish I could start all my paintings in this way of just playing with the materials and going purely with the process.
Nevertheless, I will try to use this image on a larger canvas and see where it takes me.
Once again, lovely work, Dianne. I can see from the amount of comments you get that you are stirring something in all of us!
Brilliant hues with a marvelous outcome!
